- A small medical kit containing such things as band-aids, antiseptic cream, aspirin, Tylenol, immodium AD, antacid tablets etc.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat
- Personal grooming supplies: i.e. razor, shaving cream, shampoo, toothbrush and paste, nail clippers
- Travel hair dryer. Choose one that uses 110v and 220v.
- Washcloths. Most foreign hotels do not supply washcloths.
- Small packs of Kleenex, Wet-ones, toilet tissue and toilet seat covers to carry in purse or pocket.
- Antibacterial hand sanitizer.
- Extra prescription glasses, contact lenses and eye prescriptions.
- Money belt. This is a must to protect you money, credit cards and airline tickets from pickpockets and thieves.
- Sewing kit and/or safety pins
- A travel clothesline. If you plan on washing out some travel clothes, these can be used in your hotel room.
- Wrist Watch
- Inflatable pillow for naps on planes and trains
- Pillowcase. This comes in handy if the hotels one is not clean or to stuff to make your own pillow..
- Voltage converter and plug adapters.
- Travel Iron. Eliminate this item by packing wrinkle-free or wrinkle resistant clothing.
- Small travel umbrella. Bring one per person so that you won’t have to “Share”.
- Bubble wrap. Fold some bubble wrap in the bottom of your suitcase to use if you purchase something that is delicate or fragile.
- Small roll of Duct Tape. This has many uses, such as repairing suitcases.
- Office Supplies: Small note pad and pens to carry in you purse or pocket. A journal to jot down daily trip experiences and note special people and places that you visit. Envelopes to use for holding tips given to tour guides and coach drivers. Personal Business cards to hand out to new acquittances.
- Collapsible cup and/or water bottle.
- Zip-Lock Baggies in various sizes. These can be used for a million different things such as wet bathing suits, extra snack food from buffets and for leaking toiletry bottles.
- Swiss Army type knife, cork screw and can opener. Pack these in your checked luggage.
- Guide books, maps and phrase books.
- Camera Supplies. Put a new battery in your camera before you leave home. Bring extra film and batteries because these items a quite expensive in other countries. For a video camera be sure to bring a re-charger, extra battery and tapes.
- Small extra backpack or day pack to use on sightseeing days and hikes. When you need a few things for the day, such as water bottle, extra camera supplies, passport, daily medications etc., a small day pack keeps all you necessary items available without the extra bulky weight of a regular size backpack or purse.
- Locks for your luggage. Cable locks and small padlocks come in handy to secure your luggage in hotel rooms.
- Compass
- Earplugs and sleep mask. These are often helpful on airplanes and noisy hotel rooms.
- Small Calculator
- Two-Way Radios. Very handy to keep in contact with travel companions on cruise ships, in cities. shopping areas etc.
- Take lots of crisp one-dollar bills to use for street vendors and tipping.
- Blister Pads such as Mole-Skin to relieve sore feet.
- A small duffle bag to fold-up in the bottom of your suitcase which can be used to carry home souvenirs or dirty laundry.
- Personal Toiletries: Facial cleansers, moisturizing Lotion, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, lip balm, razor shaving cream, comb/brush, nail clippers, nail file, Q-tips, cologne, travel towel.
- Small bottle of Laundry detergent.
- Walkman Radio or Media Entertainment Device (Mp3 player, DVD player)

Tip: Try to pick a neutral color to coordinate around. Mix and match items and layer outfits when possible to eliminate the need for heavy coats and numerous outer-garments.
- Undergarments--a rule of thumb is to pack enough for one week and plan to wash them out in your hotel room when necessary.
